Summary:
A captivating lecture on the essential aspects of Monetarism was organized for the first-year M.Sc. (Economics) students at the Sarla Anil Modi School of Economics, SVKM’s NMIMS, on 4th September 2025. Dr. Esha Khanna, faculty at the School, welcomed and introduced Dr. Ceri Davies, Associate Professor in Economics and Director of Admissions and Recruitment at the University of Birmingham, UK.
The lecture explored the significance of monetarism as a framework for managing economic upheavals. Dr. Davies explained how central banks employ tools such as money supply control and quantitative easing to stabilize economies and maintain price stability. Drawing on examples from the Eurozone crisis, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the Russia-Ukraine conflict, he highlighted the challenges faced by fragile economies and the complexities of policy design. The session provided students with valuable insights into the contemporary relevance of monetarism.
