Some of the emerging areas having commercial value are identified as high priority for research at SPTM. These areas are:

  1. Stem cell, their characterization, and their use as regenerative medicine
  2. Pharmacological evaluation of small molecules/plant constituents/natural products in various animal disease models (Myocardial Infarction, Diabetes Type I & II, Hypertension, Hypercholesterolemia, Atherosclerosis and Gastric Ulcer)
  3. Role of bioenhancers in improving the clinical efficacy of some drugs
  4. Importance of reduction of drug-protein binding
  5. Industrial effluent treatment and recycling of water
  6. Use of nanotechnology in developing novel drug deliveries
  7. Research in oncology, chemotherapy and opportunistic infections
  8. Medicated stents/drug-eluting stents
  9. Chiral separation (Dynamic Kinetic Resolution)
  10. Discovery of novel agents including use of Computer-aided Drug Designing
  11. Toxicological studies for Pharma Industries
  12. Cryogenic extraction of active constituents from plants
