Research Dean’s Welcome Message

Dr. Gurumurthy Kalyanaram (Ph.D.[MIT], M.B.A., B.E.)

I am delighted to welcome you to review and visit research and intellectual output at NMIMS University, and we welcome you to join us in this exciting “discovery partnership.”

To us, research is like a symphony – eclecticism produces creative insights and output. At NMIMS, we engage in active research in different domains – Architecture, Business, Commerce, Economics, Engineering, Pharmacy Science, Technology, and more – and we do this through research manuscripts in scholarly journals, research monographs, books, case- and proto-type-studies, conferences, seminars, workshops, and conversations and dialogues.

To us, research is about rigor and relevance. Our output is both theoretical and applied. We want our research to be globally benchmarked.

We foster an environment of discovery and innovation, and we combine universal values of discovery of truth with reflective and active learning.

We know that innovation and research are critical to the success of our country. Empirical studies have shown that innovative societies are also most productive and prosperous.

We realize that research is also integral to contemporariness in curriculum and teaching. Doing research requires an understanding of the current research by other scholars. It is a well-known fact that it takes about 4-5 years for research findings to become text-book wisdom. Accordingly, a professor who is engaged in active research will be contemporary in knowledge but a professor who is inactive in research (and whose teaching has to be largely based on text-books) will probably lag by about 4-5 years.

Accordingly, at NMIMS we are determined to contribute to the productivity and prosperity of our country and the contemporariness of our education through interesting and innovative research. We are constantly engaged in discovery, knowing, reflecting, synthesizing and integrating concepts, ideas, data, theories and values.
